I have a little feature in the Fall 2013 Toronto Life Stylebook. They approached me to discuss my beauty routine and what new products I’m looking forward to this fall. I give shout outs to some of my favourite beauty brands and retailers: Lancome, Chanel, Essie, Givenchy, Marni, Balenciaga, Philosophy, Concepts Salon & Spa and the Miraj Hammam Spa at The Shangri-La Hotel. The most surprising thing about the feature was this illustration of me. I was completely stunned. If you remember, I hated the last illustration Toronto Life commissioned of me. Judit GarcÃa-Talavera is an illustrator based in Barcelona, Spain. She is absolutely incredible and I’m not just saying that because she created a kick ass illustration of me. She’s worked with clients such as Marie Claire Spain, Telegraph’s Stella magazine, Bloomingdales, ELLE China, Teen Vogue, Gilt Group, ELLE Girl Japan, Harper’s Bazaar Spain, Stylesight, Rolling Stone Spain, Hennessy Cognac and Piaget. You can see all the rest of Judit’s work for the Fall 2013 Toronto Life Stylebook on her blog. The Toronto Life …
Way back in November I sat down with Trudi Loren who is the Vice President, Corporate Fragrance Development at Estèe Lauder Companies. She was in Toronto to introduce Marni’s first fragrance to members of the press. I’m a big fan of Marni and head designer Consuelo Castiglioni. I see her clothing in person at Holt Renfrew and I find myself coveting everything. I wanted to know if she could translate that feeling to a fragrance. Marni isn’t stereotypical feminine either, how would that translate into scent. Trudi starts with the origins of the fragrance. Consuelo had specific ideas for the fragrance when she met with Estèe Lauder perfumers. They tweaked her custom fragrance after numerous design cycles using their knowledge to take the fragrance to market and still be true to Consuelo vision of Marni. She was very involved in every step of the design process, treating it like editing a collection. The starting point was typically material: it was woods and spices and the incense that Consuelo wanted, somehow reminiscent the woody landscapes of …
I’m on the hunt for a great all around bag. Ideally it would have a messenger strap but I think I can overlook that it’s missing from the Marni Flap Bag. It’s a great size and comes in colours to match many outfits. The form is reduced to its pure essence, laid bare to expose the precision of the cut and beauty of the leather. The material used is fine calf leather on a monocolour or bicolour panel. Studs decorate the bag leaving its shape clean and graphic.(Source: press release) The photos show styles from the Resort 2013 collection and the Spring Summer 2013 Marni fashion show. images: eastnews.ru, tooklookbook.com
Moda Operandi has expanded their online business and are offering a selection of in season fashions from their designer partners that are shipped immediately. No more waiting of the waiting game if that isn’t you type of thing. I love this Marni skirt. Not only is the Iris Blue colour wonderful it comes in my favourite skirt shapes, the a-line. The little peplum is super cute and very on trend. You can get the Iris Blue A-Line Skirt by Marni on ModaOperandi.com images: modaoperandi.com
I love that some PRs have caught on to the fact that I love sunglasses just a little too much. My Mom asked me how many pairs I have the other day. I sheepishly replied eight. Now most people would say that`s probably a little excessive but I have no plans on keeping my collection at 8. Marni`s 2012 Winter Edition Sunglasses are on my hot list right now. I love the colours and flower motif. The main feature of the sunglasses from the MARNI WINTER EDITION 2012 EYEWEAR COLLECTION is the contrast between opaque and shiny used for a flower motif on relief in the upper part of the frame. Opaline and watery colors range from bright green, pink, yellow and red to sand and brown, while temples are in contrasting solid colors. I`m not sure which retailers in Canada will be stocking these but they are available online at marni.com and in all Marni Boutiques. images: courtesy of Marni
This Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection from Marni has me wondering if Consuelo Castiglioni was a Canadian in previous life. These accessories look warm and are perfect for our crappy winters. I really like the hoods. They look so fuzzy and warm. images: tooklookbook.com

In February, I posted about the Marni X Current Elliot denim collaboration. Marni and Current Elliot have teamed up for denim collaboration for Fall 2010. Marni designer, Consuelo Castiglioni, was given free reign to design denim that fit with the Marni aesthetic. This is her first denim line Dyes and washes span from light azure to indigo and from faded to saturated. A few styles will be sold with a black cotton belt that Castiglioni likes knotted as a ribbon. Other details include cloth borders, either press studded or piped in leather. Retail prices for the Marni-Current Elliott jeans range from $250 to $500 and will be carried in Marni stores starting in June. There are some new photos out of the collection from Dazed Digital and Nylon. High Snobette has posted an editorial shot that features the jeans in the May issue of Vogue. I’m liking the styles I’ve posted here with my favourite being the dark denim style in the first picture. Lucky Mag is reporting that prices will range from $182-$509 and …
The clothing from Marni’s fall 2010 collection was interesting to say the least. It wasn’t relaxed and easy wearing as the Marni Pre-Fall 2010 collection. I’m sure when I see individual pieces on the rack I’ll forget about the styling nightmare I saw on the runway and I’ll be able to see the beauty in some of this stuff. That’s what usually happens with me and Marni; I need to see it in person. I really liked some of the accessories. The bags are beautiful and sleek. I know the Marni Fall 2010 collection has already been shown. I didn’t like it. I was hoping Consuelo Castiglioni would follow the path she created in Marni’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection. I love the prints, they weren’t too overwhelming. The footware is a lot of fun too. I’m dying for the mittens, both styles. It was a nice relaxed collection that I could see myself wearing. images: style.com

Leather penny loafers by Marni I’m obsessed with these penny loafers by Marni. I love everything about this shoe. Its shape, stitching and most of all colour. It reminds me of warm weather, the perfect summer shoe. images: net-a-porter.com
I was treated to belated birthday gift, A Marni Bracelet. I’m in love. You could imagine how excited when I saw this box. I’m convinced that half the retail cost of luxury goods are for packaging. The packaging was pretty cool. Not only was the box wrapped in grey ribbon, there was a pouch for the bracelet inside. I’ve always liked Marni’s jewellery. It’s clunky and colourful. Definitely statement making and it will wear you if you don’t have the personality to match. This bracelet is more subdued than others, I love it’s simplicity and colour scheme.
The Marni Ready-to-Wear – Fall 2009 – 2010 collection was a strong one. It brought me back to the Marni fold after a few seasons of ambivalence. It was the jewellery that I noticed once again. Here is a short video which has a brief talk with Consuela Castiglioni and she discussed fabrics and inspiration.
Marni Platform suede slingbacks Marni has falling off my radar lately. It’s been a lot of the same clashy mess stuff for the last few seasons. I do like this shoe though and I love the wooden heel.
