A Rxmance Tshirt

i got: A Rxmance Tshirt

I got this Rxmance Tshirt at Holt Renfrew the other day. It’s a men’s medium shirt. They didn’t have a small available so I decided I could wear as a dress if I wanted. Just slap a belt on it. So I bought it. I absolutely adore the print and I knew if I didn’t own it I would regret it. images: blackbirdballard.com

Converse Music Collection Spring 2010

Converse Music Collection for Spring 2010 brings us Blondie and The Clash. The Music Collection are “sneakers inspired by iconic bands who defined what it means to rock.” The Blondie styles are made for women. I’m a fan of The Clash so I was super excited about their offerings. The white leather London Calling chucks are amazing. I ended up getting the red skull and bones Hi Tops thanks to the kind folks at Converse. I can’t wait till the weather is nicer so I can wear them.  I seem to be amazing a little Chuck Taylor collection at home, this pair will be number four.  The others were purchased by myself and not gifts, I love my Chuck Taylors. The MINI Beachcomber Concept - Toronto Autoshow 2010

The MINI Beachcomber Concept – Toronto Autoshow 2010

I haven’t been to the Autoshow in at least twenty years so I jumped at the chance to write about the new The MINI Beachcomber Concept car. The MINI Beachcomber was making a short stop in Toronto for its first Canadian appearance before being whisked to Europe for another autoshow. It may seem a little weird to my regular readers, but I’m a huge MINI fan. I love luxury and sports cars with Porsche being my favourite. Way back in 2006, I wrote a post for blogTO about Zipcar and my first experience driving a MINI. Luxury event managers, CANDICE&ALISON were hired to produce the MINI Beachcomber launch with the theme of beach tailgate party. They brought together a mix of fashion designers, models, makeup artists and product designers to contribute to the launch. The theme was heavily influenced by retro 50s beach party pop culture. Canadian designer Farley Chatto created MINI branded pin-up retro polka dot bikinis, a pair of board shorts and sheer tank. Jon, Vlada (black hair) and Caitlin of Elite models stepped …

Since then there have been two videos posted so I’m going to post all three for you to enjoy. Part 3 is so much fun. Peacoats for all! Follow the Philip Sparks blog for updates.

I want – I got Studio Tours – Dean Davidson

This is the beginning of a new feature I’d like to introduce to I want – I got, the Studio Tour. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the studio space a few local designers. I’m fan poking around creative types working spaces. I find all their tools fascinating. The mood and inspiration boards give me insight into their brains. I figured other people would be interested too, so why not blog about it. The Studio Tours isn’t really a formal interview; more a conversation. It’s a way to get a look into a creative mind in their workspace. First up, Dean Davidson. “You worked in agriculture before you became a jewellery designer”, I replied to Dean. My jaw hit the ground before the words got out. It wasn’t the beginning I expected to hear from Canadian jewellery designer Dean Davidson. For 8 years Dean would travel to different farms and evaluate them in order to explain to the farmer what was needed in order to create the yield they were looking for.  Dean was all …

Winners Spring 2010 Preview

Winners PR holds season previews. I was surprised when I received an invitation to the Spring 2010 preview. Why would an off-season retailer hold a preview for the current season when what they sell is from last spring. It was getting all confused in my head as I grasped for answers. It wasn’t forthcoming so I had to see for myself. The showroom was well put together. There were sections that featured the themes and trends for the Spring 2010 season. There was even a little section for Stylesense. I browsed through the racks and noted items liked. I saw a lot of the following trends: sport animal print in belts, shoes, handbags neutrals big in clothing, shoes and handbags Denim – all flavours, even the jean legging Leather – real and faux. Lots of neutral leather Bright jewellery – either colour or sparkly bright watches a la Toywatch styles Belts were studded, jewelled and animal printed. Gladiator sandals aren’t going anywhere, if anything more embellished Ruffles As I was browsing, I kept thinking about …

IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things Part 3

I love wandering the aisles of The Interior Design Show floor scanning for things that catch my eye.  This year Paul and I avoided the products.  We were on a tight timeline and learned what to focus on from last year.  Sleek kitchen appliance and tiling are not things I’m too interested in or have use for on I want – I got.  This is the final post in my three part series called IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things. Andrew Richard Designs x Bustle – Designers pairing up with Designers for a range of outdoor furniture based on the Spring 2010 Collection. Smash – I loved the mismatch bookshelves with strategically placed lights Balance Glassworks – What a novel concept for display and space saving.  Note: This image was incorrectly tagged as Tsunami Glassworks in Part 2.  The correct image now displays so visit Part 2 to see. Slide – The glowing lamps attracted me. The lookbook has more goodies that I will scan and share soon You can view all the …

IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things Part 2

I love wandering the aisles of The Interior Design Show floor scanning for things that catch my eye. This year Paul and I avoided the products. We were on a tight timeline and learned what to focus on from last year. Sleek kitchen appliance and tiling are not things I’m too interested in or have use for on I want – I got. This is the second post in my three part series called IDS10: I want – I got Favourite Things. Rado x Jasper Morrison – Beautiful watches. Love the sleek, black and minimal design. EDIT:  Jan 29, 2010 late night blogging.  Not good.  Wrong picture was attached originally.  Corrected picture is above. Tsunami Glassworks – It was the first thing I saw as my head peaked over the escalator stairs. It’s an attention grabber and reminds me of a large lava lamp minus the glass and fluid. Jamie Hayon – I was sad to miss his talk on Trade Day. I also left the party at Jonathan + Olivia party as he was …
