Fashion Trends on I want – I got

I’ve been talking to reporters again

This time I’m in the National Post in the story called: Fall fashion wishlist: What I want right now It’s that time again. You know, “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.” But for many of us, it’s also hunting season. Fall fashion-hunting season, that is. September’s fashion mags are full to bursting with images of impossibly lanky people – with apparently bottomless pocketbooks and no end of leisure – striding forth into the brisk autumn air dressed in riding boots, designer jackets and loads of cashmere. Who are these people and how can they afford this stuff? Do they not have day jobs? It’s not that we can’t enjoy the fantasy, but what we really want to know is what stylish people with real jobs intend to buy this fall. So Vivian Vassos asked more than a dozen fashionistas across the country, from editors to stylists to retailers, to fill us in on their personal shopping lists for the season. Click the link to read the article and see what I’m lusting for this fall.

The Balenciaga Influence – shoe trends

It’s interesting to watch the progression of a trend. Example the Balenciaga Lego shoe. I’ve been wondering how long it would take to filter down to mass market level. Here is a rough timeline: Feburary 2007 – Balenciaga debuts the shoe during the Fall/Winter 2007 – 2008 runway show. June 2007 – Beyonce is spotting in the C3PO leggings. A few months later she is sporting the lego shoes; paparazzi fodder. I groan. April 2008 – Steve Madden did the more literal version of the Balenciaga Lego shoes, they are absolute monstrosities. Today – September 2008 – Now good old Aldo is doing the inspired version. So can still see the influence though.

Spring Summer 2009 Fashion Trends

Everyone is always asking so I found some links to Spring Summer 2009 fashion trends for your reading pleasure. I will be attending the Spring/Summer 2009 trend seminar presented by Promostyl at the end of the month. You can buy tickets for this member’s only event online at the Toronto Fashion Incubator site. NYC Fashion Week Spring 2008 – Street Trends

There were two things that really stuck out for me in New York. 1. Men carried Manbags. All kinds of guys with all kinds of bags, not just the fashion insiders. I liked the look actually and I hope it spreads. Hell, I even liked the guy rocking the clutch at Phi. Find your Man bag here. 2. Goyard is king. I didn’t see a lot of Louis Vuitton, but I saw a lot of Goyard, fake and real. You could get Goyard fakes on every street corner. At night, every street corner had a bunch of guys selling handbags out of garbage bags and boxes. Fucking hilarious. For those that don’t know, Goyard is an old french company that makes very expensive luggage and handbags. images: balenciaga.com and businessweek.com

The midriff is coming back, God please no!

I’ve noticed a few runways shows for Spring 2008 that have featured the dreaded midriff. I saw some midriff action at Doo Ri. I was hoping that it was just one of those random things, but it seems to be gathering steam. Perhaps it won’t be a full blow trend for Spring 2008 (and god I hope so), but I can see a return to it in Spring 2009. Trend Forecasting – Fall 2008/2009

I attended a Fall 2008-2009 trend forecasting seminar with the Toronto Fashion Incubator. It’s a membership perk as this seminar is not open to the public. I also have access to the Womenswear trendbook at the TFI office. These books are amazing and extremely pricey. I’m loving the ideas for Fall 2008. I took a whole ton of notes and I have to compile them. The seminar was given by Natalie Gauthier from the company Promostyl, International Trend Research and Design Agency.

The Canuck version of the Haramaki

I’ve talked about my love for the Haramaki on I want – I got. I was happy that Alex from Yogagurl dropped me a note to let me know about their belly warmers. They are unfortunately only available in black. What I love about the japanese version is the colours and prints. However, if you aren’t into crazy prints and colours this would be a good purchase. Yogagurl is based out of Toronto, Ontario. images: yogagurl.com, www.1101.com
