Victoria Beckham’s Fall Winter 2011 – 2012 collection was pretty damn beautiful. I’m totally impressed with her dedication and understanding of fashion design. When she first started out I pretty much dismissed her as a celebrity/designer. Over the years she has proven that she’s serious about the business. The only beef I have is with the line’s sizing. I tried on a dress at Holt Renfrew for fun. I was brought a size 8 and I couldn’t fit into. I’m technically a four. That’s a bit of warning for people. There is a specific body type and it’s one that matches Victoria.

I love so much of this collection. The yellow dresses totally blew my mind.
The hangbag line is coming along nicely. They are classic and minimalist designs.
So it looks like Victoria’s line will be similar to Roland Mouret.
“The collection was inspired by the femininity and sophistication of the midcentury silhouette,†Beckham explained. “I’ve always been drawn to intricate, seam-detailed designs, as their structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette.â€
“I like to focus on the posture of a woman and how she holds herself, which led me to incorporate features such as modern corsetry and grosgrain details,†she said. “All corsetry is made for comfort and support with the finest materials, and, in addition, there are finer grosgrain belts that are incorporated into the line of the softer constructed dresses to give this effect in a more subtle way, thus enabling women of all sizes to wear my dresses to create a magnificent silhouette.â€
Looks include a black stretch-cotton, hand-sequined strapless dress with a corseted bodice, and a black-and-white fleck cotton paneled style with topstitched shoulder panels.
The label will say both Victoria Beckham and dVb, and the collection is priced between $600 and $1,400 at wholesale. The collection will be unveiled during private appointments next week. Company executives declined to give sales projections for the line, which targets distribution to upscale department and specialty stores.
The newly designed Holt Renfrew site now has content. It seems they are going for the Net-a-Porter model but without the online shopping aspect. Overall it’s a big step in the right direction, although there are some aspects of the website that I absolutely detest, that’s for another post.
Holt Renfrew: What was the inspiration behind dVb by Victoria Beckham?
Victoria Beckham: I’ve always collected denim and I could never find a pair of jeans that fit me particularly well. As a woman, you want something that fits relatively tight on the leg but big enough on the waist. [dVb jeans] are incredibly simple and basic: you can wear them with flip-flops or heels.
Perhaps there is a reason you can’t find jeans that fit you Victoria. Read the rest of the interview on holtrenfew.com
