I’m Still Obsessed with the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals

Yves Saint Laurent is now Saint Laurent Paris and the new website doesn’t have a Tribute shoe anywhere. There are rumour going around that the Tribute Sandal is being discontinued but according to WWD the Tribute line is being reworked and upgraded. I’m still obsessed with them and I hope they are “reworked” too much. With this upcoming design change the urgency to add a pair to my shoe collection has increased.

In 2008 the YSL Tribute Sandals started to become the go to shoe for Editors and Celebrities. In my search for information regarding the Tribute’s entry to the market I came across a lot of celebrity references. Apparently, Julliane Moore was the first celebrity to start wearing them

There are so many colour combinations and leather choices that I’m not particularly picky about which ones I do buy in the end.

I’m not a hot pink person but these are my favourite of the bunch. The purple Tributes are second.

i want: Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals

Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals
I’m totally obsessed with the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Sandals. Playing in Shrimpton Couture’s Closet has taught me that I need these shoes in my life. A towering platform paired with the ability to match with any outfit, this is perfection. Yves Saint Laurent sandals also come in all the colours of the rainbow. These green leather and coral patent ones are so fun.

i got: Framework: The YSL’s by Moxy Creative House

Framework: The YSL's by Moxy Creative House

I really liked the Moxy Creative House’s Framework. It’s a series of prints celebrating some iconic eyewear of celebrities like Warhol, Johnny Depp, Kurt Cobain, Shock G of Digital Underground, Truman Capote, Geordi LaForge and Malcolm X.  I really liked the YSL version so I ordered the poster sized print.

One of the most revered designers of all time, Yves Saint Laurent demonstrated a deeper understanding of aesthetic when he said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” This could be no truer than when looking at the man himself, a veritable icon of style. The man understood that even a simple pair of black frames can inform who we are, and more importantly, who we want to be.(source)

You can purchase this print or others online at Moxy Creative House.

Yves Saint Laurent New Vintage III

Yves Saint Laurent New Vintage III
Yves Saint Laurent Jacket, $2,250, Shirt, $1,490, Bustier, $850, and Pants, $850. Available at Yves Saint Laurent New York, call (212) 980-2970.

I love the idea of Yves Saint Laurent New Vintage line. This is the third collection.  It’s pretty expensive though.

New Vintage, initiated by YSL’s creative director, Stefano Pilati, and Julie Gilhart, is having another go. New Vintage III’s moxie is quite simple: reclaim, recycle and sustain. “The collection is materially comprised of garments made from recycled fabric and from existing patterns instead of new ones, to start a dialogue with the market using known codes and a common language that are reassuring and familiar,” says Pilati about the 180 pieces that will be available this week. Metallic wide leg trousers, velvet tuxedo suiting jackets and leopard-print wrap dresses with a hint of disco pay a refreshing nod to Saint Laurent’s iconic 1970s designs.(source)

Yves Saint Laurent New Vintage III

Pilati adds, “New Vintage is meant to be part of a process, a general attempt to give a sensibility and an education to our public so that it can act consciously toward its environment.”(source)

It’s available only at the Paris (38 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré), London (173-176 Sloane Street) and New York (3 East 57th Street) boutiques

Yves Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2011 Ad Campaign

The new Yves Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2011 Ad Campaign was shot in the gardens of the 30s, Villa Bled Roknine in Marrakech Palmeraie. Daria is out and Arizona Muse is in. I really like her look. Inez & Vinoodh are the photographers. You can read some more info about Bled Roknine here.

The campaign makes the clothing look good.  I might have to revisit YSL Spring Summer 2011.

Tommy Ton returned to the Toronto fashion scene for an exhibition of his work. Holt Renfrew is displaying Tommy Ton’s photos on the mezzanine level at the Bloor Street store from August 18 – August 30, 2010.

Pic Me Tommy Ton at Holt Renfrew

Holt Renfrew is delighted to welcome fashion photographer Tommy Ton to Holt Renfrew Bloor Street, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 for a private event to launch an exhibit of his work. The exhibit of 12 images of some of fall 2010’s most sought-after footwear styles will be housed at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street from August 18 to August 30 on the mezzanine level.

These one-of-a-kind photos were taken by Tommy Ton this spring in Toronto and have each been signed by the photographer himself. For the duration of the exhibit, Holt Renfrew will host a contest where one can enter the chance to win one of 12 framed and autographed prints valued at $1,500. Please see contest details at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street.

I attended the party for Tommy opening night. I really liked what they did with the shoe department. Tommy’s photos were hanging everywhere. The hottest fall 2010 shoes strategically placed on pedestals and encased in clear cubes. They included a pair of Fall 2010 Alexander McQueen shoes that are worth $4000!

Pic Me Tommy Ton at Holt Renfrew

It wasn’t all fun for Tommy at the party, he was working photographing the attendees shoes. This would be the first and only time many people (myself included) would ever have Tommy shoot their shoes. I was glad I didn’t wear my Camilla’s as I noticed someone else in them. I wore some Nine West sandals because I was wearing pants and the shoes weren’t visible. I got Tommy to shoot them anyways, why not right.

Pic Me Tommy Ton at Holt Renfrew

I didn’t take many photos of the guests but I loved Tommy’s animal print sweater. It was so soft. Jaime amazed me with his head to toe Patrik Ervell ensemble. I did lose my shit when I saw him. There aren’t many people who could pull the look off the head to toe print and I was pretty excited to see Jamie executing it perfectly in front of me.  He’s just too adorable.

Of course the shoes were a major part of the party and we all drooled over McQueen, YSL, Dior, Lanvin, Chloe and Balenciaga. I’m a fan of Chloe boots this season, big time.

Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2010

Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2010

I haven’t really liked a Yves Saint Laurent collection since the stellar Fall 2008 one. Pre-Fall 2010 has me optimistic. I like the colour combinations and the more classic wearable looks. I’m obsessed with the white and black jacket. I think it’s fur. Hopefully Stefano Pilati will continue this course into Fall 2010.

I love, love the white jumpsuit and hot pink leather.

i want: Fall 2009 Thigh High/Over the Knee Boots

Stella McCartney Perforated Thigh High Boot
Stella McCartney Perforated Thigh High Boot

I’m in love with the all the tall boots coming out this Fall. Over the knee, boot leggings, thigh highs. Whatever you want to call them, I love them.

Marc Jacobs Thigh High BootPrada Over the Knee Boot

Prada Over the Knee Riding Boot YSL Over the Knee Boot

Marc Jacobs, Prada, Prada, YSL

Of course, I talked about the to die for Gucci’s already.

i want: Luxury Rebel Boots

I never did get those YSL Tribute Boots but I’m glad the shape of the boot is trickling down so that I can get another chance to snag that shape. These Luxury Rebel boots remind me of the YSL Tribute Boot style. I’m pretty smitten with them.

I actually prefer the brown studded pair to the basic black. These will be available at Holt Renfrew at the end of June.

Footwear trends from Fall 2009 – 2010 from the buyers

I found this posts called The Reaction that had the buyers explaining the footwear trends from Fall 2009 – 2010 season. You can read the original articles at The Reaction on WWD.com – March 9, 2009 and The Reaction – WWD.com – March 16, 2009

Burberry Fall 2009 - 2010

Barbara Atkin, VP of Fashion Direction, Holt Renfrew
Strongest Trends:
“The extreme platform and sky-high heel, but also the return of the single sole. Strappy winter shoes that can transition from season to season. The overdesigned statement shoe is still important, and the ankle boot is strong with cutouts.”

“Must-Carry” Styles From Milan:

  • Gucci’s thigh-high, long stocking boots
  • Burberry Prorsum’s rubber platform hiking boot
  • Prada’s single-sole Mary Janes with studding and fringe

Shift in Buying Strategy:
“We are not going to be overly assortive, or as broad as we have been in the past. Rather, we’ll offer the most important DNA from each collection that speaks to our strong point of view.”

Stephanie Solomon, Fashion Director, Bloomingdale’s
Strongest Trends:
“The decorated shoe, over-the-top embellishment with feathers, beads, buckles and nailheads. Shoes are the exclamation point to every outfit, more so than in previous seasons.”

Most Directional Styles:
“The most extraordinary were Prada shoes with feather motifs, also Gucci’s boots and booties.”

“Must-Carry” Styles From Milan:

“For Bloomingdale’s it’s not about any one brand, it’s a look. The look is over-the-knee boots in stretch leather, like a legging — thigh-high!”

Stella McCartney Fall 2009 - 2010

Dominic Marcheschi, Co-Owner, Blake, Chicago
Strongest Trends:
“The rich jewel-tone colors, ’80s influences, feminine versions of men’s lace-up shoes to be worn with skirts rather than trousers and all kinds of boots, from booties to over-the-knee styles.”

Buying Strategy:
“We buy mostly runway styles from the collections, the things that are going to be really exciting and enticing to our customers — nothing basic. Especially right now.”

Roopal Patel, Senior Fashion Director, Bergdorf Goodman
Strongest Trends:

  • Over-the-knee, thigh-high boots
  • Shine
  • Biker boots

Most Directional Styles:

“The over-the-knee leather boot that looks like leggings.”

“Must-Carry” Styles From Milan:

  • Prada two-tone velvet boot
  • Thigh-high, over-the-knee boots at Gucci
  • Caged booties at Bottega Veneta

YSL Fall 2009 - 2010

Julie Gilhart, VP of Fashion Direction, Barneys New York
Strongest Trends:
“The whole season seems much more ‘realistic’ than last season’s ‘shoes as objects’ trend. We are finding lots to choose from and more easy-to-wear styles. In essence, more ‘timeless’ shoes.”

“Must-Carry” Styles from Paris:

  • Thigh-high boots
  • Lace-up shoe booties
  • Suede wedge pumps

Ones to Watch:
“We love Tabitha Simmons’ new collection.”

Shift in Buying Strategy:
“We are buying very carefully. We want quality and value over ‘brand,’ which is always Barneys’ way to buy anyway. We are watching ‘price for what you get.’ We were out to edit only the very special shoes, particularly ones that you can keep in your closet for a long time.”

Balenciaga Fall 2009 - 2010

Erin Mullaney, Buying Director, Browns, London
Strongest Trends:
“Footwear trends in Paris have been similar to what we’ve seen in New York and Milan: lots of over-the-knee boots in really nice, tight leathers.”

Most Directional Styles:

  • Balenciaga’s girly platforms with ribbons
  • Rick Owens’ wedge boots with parachutes in the back
  • Laurence Dacade’s platform shoes for Nina Ricci

Shift in Buying Strategy:
“Shoes are playing a big part in our budget; they are one of our fastest growing categories, even with the recession. While other retailers may be cutting their buying by 20 percent to 30 percent, we will stay flat with our shoe buy.”

Susanne Botschen, Head of Buying, Theresa, Mytheresa.com, Munich
Strongest Trends:
“Very high heels, platforms, studded details, suede boots, over-the-knee looks.”

“Must-Carry” Styles from Paris:

  • Roger Vivier boots
  • YSL wedge booties
  • Balmain studded pumps with bows

Ones to Watch:
“Nicholas Kirkwood.”

Bridget Cosgraves, Fashion & Buying Director, Matches, London
“Must-Carry” Styles from Paris:

  • Over-the-knee boots from Stella McCartney
  • Sneakers from Lanvin
  • The Maniac concealed platform at Brian Atwood

Ones to Watch:
“Brian Atwood, in general.”

Shift in Buying Strategy:
“More high boots and buying special.”

Fashion Show Videos Spring 2009

Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2009

Very pretty and wearable collection, however it didn’t grab me like Fall Winter 2008.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2009

Didn’t change my mind about the collection too much, but props for using Skinny Puppy

Alexander Wang Spring 2009

Everyone was peeing themselves over this collection in NYC

Christian Dior Spring 2009

Alessandro Dell’Acqua Spring 2009

I didn’t do a dedicated post to this collection but I quite liked it.

Gianfranco Ferre Spring 2009

Very luxurious clothing, as always.

Viktor & Rolf Spring 2009

I include this only because the presentation is great. I really like the side views. The clothing on the other hand….
