Givenchy Couture Spring 2010

I wasn’t freaking out over the Givenchy Spring 2010 couture show. I was expecting to but found myself liking about half the collection.  I loved the feathers, shorts, ruffles, beading and sheer elements of the collection. I loved all the pieces in neutral colours but that feeling wasn’t uniform when it went the colour came out of the woodwork.  The blue and green embellished jumpsuits reminded me of Christmas ornaments.  I loved the purple ruffled dresses. I missed Mariacarla’s strut, but my girl Rose was there.  I wasn’t a fan the eye makeup.  The shoes were very cute. I have to one question, Ciara as Riccardo Tisci’s muse?  Really, WTF.  To top it all off, trying to mooch out of paying for couture pants, this isn’t ready to wear girly. images: style.com

Jeremy Scott for Adidas Spring 2010

I attended the Adidas Spring 2010 preview day where I saw the Jeremy Scott for Adidas Spring 2010 collection. I also saw the adidas by Stella McCartney Spring 2010 collection during the same visit. Jeremy Scott for Adidas is outrageous. At first, I wasn’t really sure what to make of it all. After digesting his design style and wearing some of his stuff for a photoshoot, I have to admit I like some of the ideas Jeremy comes up with. I guess this runs in the it’s so bad it’s good territory. I also like that the line is fairly androgynous. The shoes are my favourite part of the line. They are so ridiculous.  I would get a kick out of wearing them. images: courtesy of Adidas images: courtesy of Adidas

Adidas x Star Wars Spring 2010

If you haven’t heard Adidas is doing a Star Wars collection. People are going going crazy for the adidas x Star Wars Spring 2010. I’m liking the graphic tshirts a lot. I’m also a fan of the Tie Fighter, Stormtrooper and Millennium Falcon sneakers. See the full Star Wars X Adidas Spring 2010 Lookbook at Sneaker Freaker. Livestock has received the first drop of shoes and will be carrying the Stormtrooper and Vader sneakers. I’ve heard that they will also be available for sale online in January.

Mark Fast Cocktail at Ame

Mark Fast was in town last week for a Spring 2010 preview. I wasn’t able to attend the preview during the day but I went to Ame for a cocktails in his honour. Mark is from Manitoba originally. He studied at Seneca College in Ontario briefly before going to London. He attended the prestigious Central Saint Martins and got his BA and MA. Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body. I didn’t realize the work that goes into a Mark Fast dress until I saw the models milling about …

Balenciaga Menswear Lookbooks Fall 2007 and 2009

I got the Fall 2007 Balenciaga Men’s lookbook at the Meatpacking district store in NYC. I was there for fashion week and was checking out the stores in the area. I prefer the Fall 2007 collection. It’s very preppy, which was keeping with the Balenciaga Fall 2007 woman minus the lego shoes. The Fall 2009 lookbook I got in the menswear sections of Holt’s bloor street. Not as exciting as the Meatpacking District, le sigh. I like the simple layout of the lookbooks. The format hasn’t changed either, I like that. The Fall 2009 collection is a lot more sleek and angular. I like the use of colours. I didn’t really see the connections with Balenciaga women’s as it was drapey, sparkly and full of prints.

i want: Jean Paul Gaultier x Melissa

Jean Paul Gaultier x Melissa This shoe is putting me over the Melissa edge, I was tottering on it with Zaha Hadid collaboration. I wonder what it feels like on. Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the first designers to ever collaborate with Melissa back in 1982. Since then, the Brazilian brand of plastic shoes has worked with the likes of Mugler, Patrick Cox, Karim Rashid, Alexandre Herchcovitch, the Campana Brothers, and more recently Vivienne Westwood ,and Zaha Hadid. i want: Terence Koh for Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists Chuck Taylor All Stars

I love the minimalistic nature of these Terence Koh for Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists Chuck Taylor All Stars. Unfortunately, these are for the guys. Not in my size. Boo. I’m a 5.5 Converse! Enlisted as a contributor to the 1HUND(RED) project, Koh’s approach to the design of his shoe focused on subtraction. “I wanted to keep the DNA of the Chuck Taylor intact, while reducing the seams, and smoothing out the shoe’s surfaces as much as possible”. Terence replaced the usual curve of the ankle with a vertical construction to give the shoe a clean square look. A smoothed-out version of the signature Converse tread on the sole combines with a white on white All Star rubber license plate on the heel to round out the ultra-clean look and feel of the shoe. As a contributor to 1HUND(RED), a percentage of the net wholesale price of the shoe will go to help fight AIDS in Africa, giving consumers an opportunity to become agents of change and offering a way to turn design into power. The Terence …
