Jenny Bird Pouchettes

i want: Jenny Bird Pouchettes

I saw the Jenny Bird Pouchettes at Holt Renfrew on the weekend. I have that bucket handbag preoccupation that also includes small cross body bags. There is a trend moving to smaller bags and I see a lot of cute ones like this around. Holts Renfrew is carrying the following combos: The black with stud, nude with grommets and Leopard with grommet. The Leopard style is exclusive to Holts. The handbag retails for $250 CAD.

Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival – Hermann & Audrey

I want – I got goes to the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival – Hermann & Audrey

The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival exhibit by Hermann & Audrey is held in The Baitshop and I’m obsessed with it. There is a huge skateboarding ramp as soon as you walk in. The ceilings are high with exposed beams, ductwork and brick. The Baitshop makes me want to throw a party or an event. The space is just that inviting. The exhibit features photographers Steve Carty, Javier Lovera, Stefania Sgambelluri, Jalani Morgan and Cory Vanderploeg. These photographers will collaboration with artists Skam, Jon Todd, Derooted’s Simon Rojas, Smakstudio’s Scott McIntyre and Kimmy Yun to create 40 pieces challenging Marshall McLuhan’s theory of Hot and Cold media. In Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan defined photography as a ‘hot’ medium, characterized by single sense stimulation with a high degree of data. According to McLuhan, absorption of the ‘hot’ message requires minimal involvement on the part of the viewer. ‘Cold’ mediums, by contrast, are low in data because little visual information is provided, thus putting the user in a more active role of filling in the gaps. Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival – Right To Play – Azerbaijan, 2009

I want – I got goes to the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival – Right To Play – Azerbaijan, 2009

Right To Play – Azerbaijan, 2009 is Glen Baxter’s exhibition for the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. I had no idea that Glen was a photographer. This is his fifth solo show with Scotiabank CONTACT. I just assumed he was always in front of the camera as the host of In Fashion and not behind. Glen traveled solo to Azerbaijan and visited the many settlements which host a million people displaced by war and conflict. Glen is auctioning off all 25 images in the show with 100% of the proceeds going to Right to Play. He has raised over $45,000 with his photography for Right to Play to date. The show is in the 3rd floor event space in the BOSS store on Bloor street. It was my first time in the space and it’s perfect for an art event.  There is lots of wall space and minimal obstructions in the middle of the room to allow for chatting and socializing without distracting those that want to stare at the photos.  I’m looking forward to attending …

Dermalogica

Group Therapy with Dermalogica

I’m a big Dermalogica fan. I got into to their skin care regimen a few years ago. Even though I receive products from other brands I always have some sort of Dermalogica product in my routine.  I attended a Dermalogica event called Group Therapy with .  It was a bloggers only event.  Dermalogica is smart and called us online editors instead of bloggers in their communication.  It was a personal face analysis session at the Dermalogica Training Centre in Toronto. I wanted to take advantage of the Dermalogica experts and check that I had the right product mix. It was a very informative session and it changed up my routine. Prior to attending the session my kit included: Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-Active Toner, Total Eye Care and Active Moist moisturizer.  At the session, my expert recommended some different products in the line. I discovered the PreCleanse as the first step. It’s a lightweight cleansing oil that removes sebum and oil based debris from the skin before using the Special Cleansing Gel. It …

PlastiChic Watches

PlastiChic Watches and their Doppelgangers

I received a PlastiChic watch after being pitched by their PR. The simple digital display and shape peaked my interest.  I love colourful watches and I’m usually always wearing my neon orange Toywatch. PlastiChic seemed liked an accessible way to enjoy a colourful watch. A Toy Watch is $200+ and PlastiChic are much cheaper.  PlastiChic watches are made from silicone and come in 19 colours.  They weight 10 grams and are water-resistant. They are the kind of watch that would look great stacked on top of  each other in wild colours. The packaging of the PlastiChic watches is pretty slick. I had a bit of trouble getting the watch out but  I was really impressed with the test tube design. It’s easy to appeal to the science nerd in me. There are three sizes available. They will retail from $22 – $40. The Bay will be carrying PlastiChic starting July 1, 2010. They are available in Toronto at The Little Party Shoppe 2566 Yonge Street Ra Sun Spa 388 Richmond Street West There is a …

Mikhael Kale Fall Winter 2010 - 2011

Mikhael Kale Fall Winter 2010 up close

I loved Mikhael Kale Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection. On the weekend I got a chance to see the clothing up close. Mikhael was shooting the lookbook in an alley in the east end. I brought the trusty Olympus E-PL1 put her into macro mode and went to town with pictures. You really need to see the details of Mikhael Kale’s dresses, it’s incredible.  The garments are like works of art. Mikhael is getting some great press at the moment. He was featured in Vogue.com when Mark Holgate came to town. The latest celebrity to be seen in his designs is J.Lo. Beyonce and Ciara have already been spotted in his work. See all my photos from the shoot. Mihkael Kale is available at Holt Renfrew in Canada.

Debbie Pant by Ewanika

i want: Debbie Pant by Ewanika

I’ve been obsession over the Debbie Pant by Toronto based designer Ewanika. They look like a great convergence of style and function.  They got some room in the thigh and hips which I like a lot.  The pockets look like they sit flat, sometimes that style has a tendency to gape. I’m so glad that these roomier styles of pants are everywhere now. It’s perfect for track legs.  I like that Ewanika uses customers as models.  This is Leslie Wormworth an Ewanika customer since 2001. EWANIKA 1083 Bathurst Street Toronto, ON

Oscar de la Renta at Holt Renfrew

So Oscar de la Renta made an appearance in Toronto for a fancy fundraiser and a PA at Holt Renfrew. Unfortunately I was at work during his Holt Renfrew PA. I definitely didn’t have the money to be at his fancy fundraiser either. All I have is these photos that were provided to me by Holts. Maybe one day I’ll get to meet this legend. Holt’s prepared for Oscar’s arrival with dedicated windows. Holt Renfrew unveils its “Croquet, Anyone?” national window installation to celebrate the arrival of spring. Mannequins play with giant mallets and brightly coloured croquet balls inside the windows. “The uncompromising style of C.Z. Guest, the timelessness of Slim Aaron’s photography and the unapologetic spirit of The Official Preppy Handbook were all inspirations for our croquet windows this spring,” says John Gerhardt, Creative Director of Holt Renfrew. “We played with patterns and proportions this national window installation, resulting in whimsical and joyful treatments.” The window fashions take inspiration from the prep-school trend from the spring 2010 collections of designers such as Oscar de …

Cherry Blossoms at High Park with the Olympus PEN E-PL1

So I’m loving the Olympus PEN E-PL1 camera. It has a pretty steep learning curve and I’m nowhere near knowing all it’s secrets. I did take it out for a spin to catch the cherry blossoms blooming in High Park. All the closeup shots were taken in Macro mode. There is a wonderful amount of crystal clear detail to see in the larger versions of these images. The Olympus E-P1 marks the formal introduction of the Olympus Micro Four Thirds (4/3) camera system in the form of a high-quality, sub-compact digital camera. Designed around a 12.3-megapixel (17.3 x 13mm) Live MOS imaging sensor, the E-P1 enables pro-quality still and video imaging abilities in a small, unassuming package. Along with a new line of compact M.Zuiko Digital lenses, the new system is compatible with all existing 4/3-format fixed-prime and zoom lenses from 7mm through 800mm (114° to 1.5° AOV).(source) The Olympus PEN E-PL1 ranges in price from about $570 to $700 depending on which shop you look at. There are different accessories you can buy like …
