Givenchy Haute Couture – Fall 2010

It’s hard to comment on something so perfect. What words can express the tear enducing beauty of the collection. Some of the garments took 1600 hours to produce. Can you imagine the furiously busy women and men in the atilier creating these garments? They must be extremely proud they must be of their work. A documentary NEEDS to be made about the House of Givenchy’s couture division. Riccardo Tisci and his team are 21st century couture gods. There was no runway show this season and I have to admit I liked it better. The photos that are out their already are amazing. There are photos with the clothing on models and on judys. I like the differences the human form and judy show off in pictures. Nowfashion.com has some great shots of the shoes and boots. They go from the fairly simple sandal to crazy ornate open toed boot. I can’t wait to see more of this collection in the wild. You really need to see the high resolution shots available on style.com and vogue.uk.com. …

Christian Dior Haute Couture – Fall 2010 – 2011

I can’t remember the last time I was excited for a Christian Dior Haute Couture collection. The fall 2010 collection has made me a believer in John Galliano again. It helps that he’s influence is a favourite of mine too, flowers. I have a bit of a flower photo taking fetish and I was delighted as soon as I saw the first look. The collection is saturated in colour and the resemblance of the clothing to flowers is undeniable. Everything is just perfect about this collection. It has enough spectacle to be interesting and the construction details are to die for. The gowns are just beautiful, however some of the models were way too thin in them. It’s especially apparent in any back shots you see. I tracked down some footage of the show so you can get a look at the clothing moving. Hopefully the full show will be available soon. View the whole collection at style.com, it’s really worth it. images: vogue.uk.com

Todd Selby in Toronto

Todd Selby in Toronto

Todd Selby (aka The Selby) came to Toronto to promote his new book, The Selby is in your House.   Holt Renfrew hosted a public book signing session in the Bloor street store.  A party in his honour at was held at Parts & Labour the night before. It was at this party I would learn about Todd’s site and why I was always hearing his name in fashion circles. Yep, I was that ignorant about the man. I don’t follow interiors that much and since he loves to photograph homes I can see why I never really bothered to check him out.  I knew he was important, the why was never that important to me. For those of you not familiar with The Selby, he takes photos of people’s homes. These people are usually creative types and many big players in the fashion industry. My first exposure to The Selby was on the walls of P&L. Holt Renfrew had printed all the pages of his book on these panels that lined the walls.  There were …

Amanda Lew Kee Fall Winter 2010 - 2011

Amanda Lew Kee Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

“Who are those scenester kids?”, I wondered. I was at Derek Blasberg event. A group of four people all dressed in black arrived. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the scenester kids. Someone has to take this stuff seriously because I know it’s not me. I recognized the guy in the group. It was Trash Helder. The women were wearing clothing with a similar style. This wasn’t random chance, it smelled calculated to me. Carefully planned to produce the following reaction: who are you and who are you wearing? The photographers ate it up and the quartet received a lot of attention. They commanded the room, it was amazing to watch. I loved every second of it. I would later find out that later that Amanda Lew Kee, a recent graduate of Ryerson’s School of Fashion orchestrated the scenester kids scene was . I went to the Fall Winter 2010 preview of her namesake woman’s line. I got to meet Amanda and I gushed over her stunt and its brilliance.  It was perfect because …
