Holt Renfrew Blogger Windows

Well, I hinted at the Holt Renfrew Blogger Windows on my 4 year anniversary post. Now the news has hit up the International fashion press and it’s spreading.

Holt Renfrew is paying tribute to six of their favourite fashion bloggers. I want – I got happens to be on that list. 🙂

WWD was the first out the gate. The press release hasn’t been sent, but they were tipped off by someone. I’ve been yapping on twitter about it for a few weeks now. Racked LA, Mens.style.com, Modelinia, The Cut, Puretrend.com and Fashionista chipped in too. I’m not mentioned in the international press, I’m not fashion blog famous. I just have my little abode here in Toronto.

On the Canadian media front, Danielle at Final Fashion was quick to post, as was fashionmagazine.com. They both mentioned me and I love them for it.

So you are wondering who else is Holt’s favourites? They are Scott Schuman, Bryanboy, Tommy Ton, Jane Aldridge and Garance Doré.

I knew my blog was read in Holt’s head office, but I had no idea how popular it was until now. Watching the reactions and the misinformation is a little surreal. The whole thing is surreal to be honest. I have vague details of my window, but I will be just as surprised as you all on Friday, June 26, 2009. Hit up your local Holts and check out the windows.

EDIT(June 24, 2009): The press release has been sent.

Holt Renfrew Reveals Fashion Blogger Windows
National Windows Pay Homage to Online Style-Leaders

TORONTO, June 23 /CNW/ – This Friday evening, Holt Renfrew, Canada’s leading specialty retailer, will pay tribute to the newest international style influencers – fashion bloggers – with a national window installation celebrating their diversity and spirit.
Six bloggers were invited by Holt Renfrew Creative Director John Gerhardt to be part of the celebration. The bloggers are a diverse mix of fashion leaders from around the globe and include Scott Schuman (thesartorialist.blogspot.com); Jane Aldridge (seaofshoes.typepad.com); Anita Clarke (iwantigot.geekigirl.com); Tommy Ton (jakandjil.com); Bryan Boy (bryanboy.com) and Garance Dore (garancedore.fr/en).
“Bloggers have become the fashion world’s new celebrities,” says Gerhardt. “They’re knowledgeable and influential contributors to the modern media landscape. Their opinions and visuals are relevant, creative and thought-provoking, providing a constant source of inspiration. We are honoured to pay homage to their style.”
At Holt Renfrew’s flagship location in Toronto, two of the blogger-inspired windows will be equipped with a 24-hour interactive touch screen for the public to cast votes to help select Holts Contemporary Correspondent. The two Toronto finalists will be competing in a series of fashion-related challenges being held over six weeks. Votes can also be cast
through Holt Renfrew’s Facebook page and the winner will be determined based on total number of public votes.

More press is coming in too.

Fit-in-15 Quick Tips

Looking for easy ways to get Fit-in-15.

Here are a few tips to help you add 15 minutes of activity to your day.

  • Take a walk after lunch. This is easy when it’s nice outside, like today. Alternatives for PATH dwellers like myself is to take stroll in our underground. Get to know it.
  • Take a walk to lunch. During the summer I walk down to St. Lawrence Market. It’s an enjoyable way to add 15.
  • Do you have a dog? Instead of just going around the block, take a bit more time. You and your dog will be thankful.
  • Dance in your living room. I do this all the time and I’m sure many of you do to. Put on a mix of your dancing songs and work it out.

Here is someone who should get your dancing inspiration going.

Don’t forget to enter The I want – I got Fit-in-15 Contest. Deadline is June 26, 2009.

I want – I got 4 years strong.

20061215_balenciaga2.jpg

I want – I got is 54 years old today. It blows my mind that I’m still doing this. It’s a good thing of course and I’m still enjoying myself.

I thought you’d get a kick out of my first ever post which explains the concept of the site. It’s amazing to see what has happened in the 4 years since the concept I threw together without thinking has conceived.

why?

Lot’s of things have changed since I wrote that. In 2006, I started writing for blogTO and that got me entrenched in the Toronto fashion scene. During that time I want – I got’s popularity was rising. In spring 2009, I resigned from blogTO to make I want – I got my number one priority. My writing for blogTO had been dwindling over the last year. Working fulltime and dealing with I want – I got resulted in a lot of priority changes. I knew it was time to move on.

So, I’m hoping for continued success with I want – I got over the rest of 2009. You can check out my review of 2008. 2009 has been interesting so far with speaking at PodCamp and the upcoming FashionCamp, the Anita Dress and my upcoming window display at Holt Renfrew stores. June 26th people, take a look at your closest Holts – more info to come.

EDIT: Ya, I can’t count apparently, it’s only been 4 years. I feel like such a complete moron. I’m surprised no one noticed. BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

My Celebrate Courage necklace is on sale now.

A month ago I participated in Mimi + You Celebrate Courage Workshop. The necklace I made is now on sale at MiMi + You website.

It looks a little different then what was in the last post. At that point it wasn’t completed as the there needed some a way to attach the chains part to the beaded part. Mitra took it away to do complete that. She managed to incorporate one of my original ideas that I dropped, ribbon. I’m very happy with the final product.

Eleven Opening with Fashion Magazine

IMGP3806

Eleven Boutique and Fashion Magazine teamed up to put on an official opening party for the newest women’s fashion shop in Yorkville. There was an official ribbon cutting ceremony a few weeks ago. I was invited but couldn’t attend. Eleven carries Lundström, Joeffer Caoc and Thien Le. The selection from the Lundström collection is massive, so this should be your first stop when looking for anything Lundström.

IMGP3809

I got to meet Linda Lundström for the first time, as well as Thien Le. At this point, I had not seen any Thien Le gowns in person. I saw his golf collection at SS08 fashion week. Upstairs there were a few women playing dress up in Thien Le and Lundström. After chatting with Thien Le he twisted my arm and I decided to play dress up in a few of his dresses.

Eleven has a great selection of jewellery. I was very impressed with the offerings.

Jimmy Choo x H&M

Jimmy Choo Samoa Kid sandals

So the news broke last night, Jimmy Choo will be the next designer for H&M. This a big one for all the Sex in The City wannabes.

This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores. The collection will be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world. It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand, and to celebrate Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision for this collection to women’s clothing to complement the accessories. Further exciting news is that this collaboration includes a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

I’m not a fan of Jimmy Choo, his shoes do nothing for me in general. I’m hoping H&M does the right thing and make the shoes from leather and not plastic. If you have seen the shoes lying on the sale tables right now you can understand what I mean. A Jimmy Choo shoe out of plastic, it’s like blasphemy to me.

I predict this sale will be the most nuts. Get your elbows up if you plan on hitting H&M for the release date in November.

Fit-in 15 - The 15 minute fitness habit

I’ve been called out for a challenge. The Fit-in 15 campaign is about building awareness to bring physical activity into your daily life. Most people have a hard time starting up a heavy routine at the gym and think that’s the only way to be active. Its just not true, adding as little as 15 minutes of activity a day can yield health benefits. Active living is a lifestyle, you need to incorporate activities that fit your schedule and stick to them. Start out small and increase. The main key is REPETITION. Get it stuck in your brain so you don’t even think of it. There are many things you can do and I’m going to talk about the things I do daily over the course of the next week.

Research shows that 90% of Canadians want to be more physically active, but cite lack of time as a main deterrent. To address this, the CCA is launching a new website on June 17, 2009, called Fit-in 15. The site encourages Canadians to commit to doing 15 minutes of physical activity each day. The emphasis of the campaign is not on dramatic transformation, but on encouraging people to start small and simply begin forming the habit of being active every day.

This challenge isn’t only about me as I have a giveway for one of my lucky readers that joins me in the Fit-in-15 activities. The winner will get a 4G ipod shuffle. Details of the contest will be posted tomorrow. It’s a sporty one, so be ready.

So, check the website out at Fit-in 15. I’ll be having daily posts for the next week doing my best to encourage you all to get out and make some time for exercise. You don’t need a trainer or fancy equipment.

Why am I doing this you ask? It seems pretty strange for a fashion blogger to be talking exercise. Many of you don’t know that I’m a former Junior National level athlete. Sports was my life during school (I have the medals, ribbons and newspaper clippings to prove it) and I would train more than 3 hours a day. I even have a B.Sc with a major in Kinesiology. While my training days are over, I still keep active. My sport of choice is now Squash with Skiing and Rollerblading rounding out my top 3. I really should get on writing a bio for myself 🙂
