Fashion Magazine Fall 2009 – 2010 Trend Event

While I was on vacation from my day job I attended the Fashion Magazine fall 09 trend preview event. This was the magazines take on the key trends for the upcoming fall 2009 – 2010 season. I awlays find it weird to hear about the season during it’s execution in the market. By this time I’m already over the trends and just want to see the merchandise in person. Sometimes I get re-inspired or opinions change about collections after touching the garments. Prada fall 2009 collection is a good example of this effect, I’m totally gag over the collection now after seeing pieces in the store. Time helps to ease initial perception of a collection. The preview took place at the the beautiful Andrew Richard Design Loft in the east end high end furniture shop mecca of King Street. The space was beautiful and we were treated to drinks and canapes. There were a few Canadian Designers with samples for viewing in the space: Ezra Constantine, Miss Rowe and Mercy. The presentation was well rounded …

Holt Renfrew Reveals Fashion Blogger Windows

The official Press Release is here: Holt Renfrew Reveals Fashion Blogger Windows. I’ve talked about myself enough so here is a slideshow of the other windows at the Bloor Street store. Images provided by Holt Renfrew. I’m a big fan of all the windows. At first I didn’t understand Bryanboy’s but Jennifer at Fashion Magazine straightened me out. Marc Jacobs did the Posh in a Bag ads which were very similar to Bryanboy’s own Bryanboy in a bag photos. It all made sense after that revelation and I enjoy his window much more. Jane’s was awesome and I loved how all the mannequin looked just like her. There wasn’t enough shoes though. Loved Tommy Ton’s window, especially the screens that were made using images from Jak & Jil. The Sartorialist got the biggest windows and they are pretty cool. Hello, newspaper boxes wrapped in suiting material, LOVE. Garance Dore’s was very French, perhaps the Baguettes were over doing it. I loved the mannequin with the camera the best. If you look close enough you’ll see …

Holt Renfrew Blogger Windows

Well, I hinted at the Holt Renfrew Blogger Windows on my 4 year anniversary post. Now the news has hit up the International fashion press and it’s spreading. Holt Renfrew is paying tribute to six of their favourite fashion bloggers. I want – I got happens to be on that list. 🙂 WWD was the first out the gate. The press release hasn’t been sent, but they were tipped off by someone. I’ve been yapping on twitter about it for a few weeks now. Racked LA, Mens.style.com, Modelinia, The Cut, Puretrend.com and Fashionista chipped in too. I’m not mentioned in the international press, I’m not fashion blog famous. I just have my little abode here in Toronto. On the Canadian media front, Danielle at Final Fashion was quick to post, as was fashionmagazine.com. They both mentioned me and I love them for it. So you are wondering who else is Holt’s favourites? They are Scott Schuman, Bryanboy, Tommy Ton, Jane Aldridge and Garance Doré. I knew my blog was read in Holt’s head office, but …

Jimmy Choo x H&M

So the news broke last night, Jimmy Choo will be the next designer for H&M. This a big one for all the Sex in The City wannabes. This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores. The collection will be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world. It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand, and to celebrate Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision for this collection to women’s clothing to complement the accessories. Further exciting news is that this collaboration includes a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories. I’m not a fan of Jimmy Choo, his shoes do nothing for me in general. I’m hoping H&M does the right thing and make the shoes from leather and not plastic. If you have seen the shoes lying on the sale tables right now you can understand what I mean. A Jimmy Choo shoe out of plastic, it’s like blasphemy to me. I …

Lanvin Resort 2010

I’m a total Lanvin fangirl so it’s pretty much guaranteed I’m gonna like the collections. Lanvin showed a much more sporty style for Resort. Lots of running shoes and jumpers. Yes, I approve of both. The colours are so vibrant and rich. I really liked the presentation of the collection. It seemed more like a lookbook than runway show. Models were paired together or alone and in motion. I’m a sucker for the in motion shots. There were the more sporty items paired with Lanvin sneakers and then they were the elegant pieces. The beautiful dresses we are use to drooling over. images: Style.com

Balenciaga Resort 2010

Balenciaga Resort 2010 was a mixed bag, linen, short party dresses, slim pants, volume, ruffles and prints . Like most of the resort collections I loved, there was a great pant selection. I loved the linen pieces. The fabric was substantial and raw. The collection as a whole didn’t really mesh with me like last seasons. There were pieces that felt completely out of place like this beautiful grey dress. The pattern in the fabric wasn’t recreated in any other pieces. It was still a great collection, just not as cohesive and directional as past efforts. Definitely not as futuristic as past collections. The super short tiered party dresses are super cute. The shoes, my god, the shoes. images: Style.com

Prada Ready to Wear – Resort 2010

I wasn’t a fan of the Fall 2009 – 2010 collection. It wasn’t for me with the waders and boxy cuts. For Resort, it’s a much softer Prada. Miuccia showed a collection influenced by the beach. It was a much simpler collection, relying more on colour combination and prints for the wow factor. The shoes look walkable, also in contrast to the disaster that was Spring Summer 2009. I loved the print work from the Spring 2009 collection, so it was nice to see prints making a comeback. See the whole collection at style.com. images: Prada Resort 2010 – Fashion News – WWD.com.
