SOL(e)D! aka Anita’s Birthday Party

I’m celebrating my birth with one of my favourite magazines, the Worn Fashion Journal. Join me and the Worn Team celebrate the closing of the ART & SOLE exhibition. The ART & SOLE exhibition (May 21 – June 6) will feature twenty-four interpretations of that understated fash classic, Keds. The exhibit will close with a v. fashionable gala (cocktails! hor d’oevres! 1960s Motown/Stax/Hi Records music courtesy of Shake a Tail DJs!) and live auction fundraiser which will give our readers the chance to bid on these wonderful creations, with a portion of proceeds supporting Fashion Cares (in support of ACT). The animated image above displays some of the shoes in the collection. Attendees of SOL(e)D! will also have access to all exhibits in the museum, cheap drinks and free food. Tickets are $28 and also include 2 year subscription to WORN. Tickets can be purchased online SOL(e)D! Italy at Your Feet VIP Cocktail

I was invited to the “Italy at Your Feet” VIP cocktail, presented by Browns, the Italian Trade Commission (I.C.E) and ANCI (Associazione Nazionale Calzaturieri Italiani) by Fashion Magazine. It was hosted by Browns at the flagship Bloor street location. It was a great excuse to celebrate Italian shoes, drink Prosecco and eat delicious, delicious prosciutto. |FAT| 2009 Day 4

I attended [FAT], Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week, at the Distillery District last week. It was the final day of a very a long week. There are a lot of designers to get through. So most of my reviews will be brief using word association. I’ll expand on a collection when necessary. Each day has get it’s own post, read the previous reports: FAT Day 1, FAT Day 2, FAT Day 3. Day 4 |BEYOND| |FAT| takes a glance at where we are headed and how we can reinvent ourselves. Artists seek to experiment, play, and dream. They push barriers and challenge conventions. Imagination and the extremes of invention shape possibilities for the future. LOVAS Wesley Badanjak – lovely colour scheme, houndstooth, teal, office dressing, great pants. The collection was very well constructed; I have to admit it was quite lovely to see. Wesley is a David Dixon protege and the collection looked kinda like, umm, David Dixon. I dubbed it David Light. That being said, I could see myself in a number of …

|FAT| 2009 Day 3

I attended [FAT], Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week, at the Distillery District last week. It was four days of music, art and fashion. It was a long week, so very long. I thought of bailing on many days of FAT, but I never want to miss any of the fashion shows. It’s always an internal battle. There are a lot of designers to get through. So most of my reviews will be brief using word association. I’ll expand on a collection when necessary. Each day will get it’s own post. For Day 3 you’ll notice a significant decrease in the quality of the photography. Well that’s because yours truly was taking the photos this day. My photographer, Paul Baik, was taking the day off. My picture are horrible, even more horrible than normal because I was using a Nikon S230 loaner which I’m not enjoying all that much. Don’t worry, Paul is back for Day 4. Day 3 |GUTTER| Unsettling. Shifting. Extreme. How do we survive in these volatile times? |FAT| explores art & …

Breaking Down The Buy Design Outfit

I was very impressed with my Buy Design Outfit that I thought I should dedicate a post to it. This the best full body shot I have at the moment. I happen to love this photo also. The fur caplet is Bear. Yes, you read that right Bear. I don’t own it. It was rented from a great vintage shop call The Refinery (588 Markham St.). I enjoyed every second wearing that caplet. It also was the focal point of my outfit. The top is Greta Constantine. You can’t see the back, but it’s basically non-existent on this shirt. The leggings are Member’s Only. The shoes are Nine West, a Balenciaga knockoff I’m told. I lived in these sandals last summer and plan on doing the same this summer. Purple Clutch is YSL. The feathered headpiece is from KC Hats (998 Bathurst St). I never imagined that the headpiece would work without hair, but I was proven wrong in the studio and I left the studio with it in a bag. images: Raymund Galsim, Gail …

i want: Olympia Black Leather Sandals – Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent

Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Olympia Black Leather Sandals You wouldn’t know by the weather in Toronto but it’s Springtime and I’m getting sandals on the brain. I’m kinda over my gladiators. I barely wore them last year as I didn’t have the heart. There were too many bad knee-high gladiator boot sandal things going on and in horrible colour schemes too. I’m now looking for more interesting sandals to fill the void. This is where these Olympia Black Leather Sandals from Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent come in. You can purchase these sandals through the Canadian online retailer S|Sense. Shipping is free for Canada.

Footwear trends from Fall 2009 – 2010 from the buyers

I found this posts called The Reaction that had the buyers explaining the footwear trends from Fall 2009 – 2010 season. You can read the original articles at The Reaction on WWD.com – March 9, 2009 and The Reaction – WWD.com – March 16, 2009 Barbara Atkin, VP of Fashion Direction, Holt Renfrew Strongest Trends: “The extreme platform and sky-high heel, but also the return of the single sole. Strappy winter shoes that can transition from season to season. The overdesigned statement shoe is still important, and the ankle boot is strong with cutouts.” “Must-Carry” Styles From Milan: Gucci’s thigh-high, long stocking boots Burberry Prorsum’s rubber platform hiking boot Prada’s single-sole Mary Janes with studding and fringe Shift in Buying Strategy: “We are not going to be overly assortive, or as broad as we have been in the past. Rather, we’ll offer the most important DNA from each collection that speaks to our strong point of view.” Stephanie Solomon, Fashion Director, Bloomingdale’s Strongest Trends: “The decorated shoe, over-the-top embellishment with feathers, beads, buckles and nailheads. …
