TOMMY by Tommy Hilfiger Holiday 2010 Preview

The buzz about the TOMMY by Tommy Hilfiger Holiday 2010 preview was that uber cool, fashion god Kate Lanphear from Elle Magazine would be in attendance. She floated around The Gladstone Hotel briefly, stunning everyone with her beauty and killer outfit. I only get starstruck around editors like Kate. She was gone so fast I didn’t get a photo with her, oh well. So TOMMY is Tommy Hilfiger’s first project since being acquired by Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. They are hoping to grab some of the market that American Apparel, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle Outfitters are targeting. They are hoping to get 25 year olds that aren’t looking for typical preppy Tommy Hilfiger. It’s a men’s and women’s line that will consist of knits, denim and outerwear from $24 to $139. Tommy aims to focus on handmade details, distinctive materials and unexpected pairings for unique looks. For example, a washed, tailored jacket could be mixed with vintage-inspired long johns and hand-painted brogues, or a men’s wear shirt coupled with a slouchy boy-fit sweatshirt …

Converse Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Preview

The Converse Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 preview was held at One King Street in the Vault. It was an interesting venue as it literally was a vault, heavy steel door and all. It was a little to dark for good photos. The Chuck Taylor line is always coming up with new fabrications and colour schemes.  I saw corduroy, jersey, sequins and suede. I really like the Chuck Taylor Slims in leather.  For women they introduced a slouchy Chuck Taylor in patent leather and denim. They retail $80 – $90.  There where so many styles to look at, here are my highlights. Chuck Taylor All Star 1969 Collection The 1960’s were turbulent times. War lotteries and race riots gave way to protests and the love movement. The music of Woodstock carries with it the all the strength and desires of a new and prolific generation who were determined to break all the rules. Chuck Taylor All Star shoe’s capture the radical spirit of the Woodstock generation and pay homage to the artists that changed the …

Perfect a film by Ruth Hogben featuring Celine Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Perfect is a film by Ruth Hogben for Showstudio. It features clothing from the Celine Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection. It’s basically Celine porn, you need to watch it on the Showstudio website. Reduce, refine, define. Phoebe Philo’s A/W 2010 Celine collection is a Minimalist mantra for modern dressing. Next season, perfect isn’t a noun, it’s a verb.(source) image: showstudio.com

David Dixon and Philip Sparks for Town Shoes Fall Winter 2010 Preview

Town Shoes recently sent this teaser image of some of the new fall winter 2010 – 2011 collections from Philip Sparks and David Dixon. I’m so glad to see this designer shoe collaboration continuing to be a success. Every year the shoes get better and better. I’m dying over the Philip Sparks boots. If only they came in a men’s 6, I would be in heaven. images: courtesy of Town Shoes

Object Fetish by SHOWstudio: Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Shoes

I’m loving the Object Fetish videos by SHOWstudio. Examining key pieces from next seasons international collections, Object Fetish trains obsessive attention onto next seasons not-so-obscure objects of desire – namely the choicest accessories from fashions favourite names, metaphorically unpicked through film and text. The last Object Fetish video I showed you was for the Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Chanel Ice Cube Handbags. This video takes on Alexander McQueen’s final Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection. The Fetish is shoes.  The object is pictured above.  The video isn’t on youtube yet so you will have to visit the Object Fetish – SHOWstudio site to watch.  It’s well worth it, the shoes is one of the more ornate things I’ve ever seen.  I really wish SHOWstudio would have embeddable movies. I’ve also tracked down some images of what’s to come in shoes this fall for McQueen. images: showstudio.com, fashionising.com

i want: Alejandro Ingelmo Fall Winter 2010 Boots

Alejandro Ingelmo is an American shoe designer who studied at Parsons. Shoe making is in his blood and he expanded his great grandfather’s brand, Ingelmo Shoes. Criss Cross Ankle Boots Laminated Metal Pony Boot Wedges I covet these shoes mostly because of the towering platform. They both have an 1.5 inch internal platform. I’m always looking to get higher. They are sleek and sexy though too. images: luisaviaroma

Christian Dior Haute Couture – Fall 2010 – 2011

I can’t remember the last time I was excited for a Christian Dior Haute Couture collection. The fall 2010 collection has made me a believer in John Galliano again. It helps that he’s influence is a favourite of mine too, flowers. I have a bit of a flower photo taking fetish and I was delighted as soon as I saw the first look. The collection is saturated in colour and the resemblance of the clothing to flowers is undeniable. Everything is just perfect about this collection. It has enough spectacle to be interesting and the construction details are to die for. The gowns are just beautiful, however some of the models were way too thin in them. It’s especially apparent in any back shots you see. I tracked down some footage of the show so you can get a look at the clothing moving. Hopefully the full show will be available soon. View the whole collection at style.com, it’s really worth it. images: vogue.uk.com

i want: Shearling Low Boots by Burberry Prosum

I drooled over the crazy shearling boots from Burberry for Fall Winter 2010 – 2011. Luisaviaroma finally has the short style for sale. Shearling Low Boots by Burberry Prosum They look pretty comfortable with the rubble sole. However, they do have a 5 inch heel.  It looks like there is a bit of a platform too.  I’m hoping the Burberry store or Holt’s carries these shoes so I can get a closer look at them. images: luisaviaroma.com

Tavan & Mitto Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

Tavan & Mitto is Payam Tavan and Mike Mitto from Montréal. They have been designing together since 1995 where they first catered to private clients with their made to measure business. In spring 2001 they started a ready to wear collection due to the demand they were seeing. Payam Tavan has a Master’s degree from Domus Academy in Milan and worked with the head stylist at Gianfranco Ferré. Mike Mitto studied in Paris at La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture and worked for Chanel for several seasons. This was my first exposure to the brand in person. I had heard the name before in passing but never did do any follow-up to learn more. I think they make beautiful clothing.  As an office worker, I could see myself in a lot of these pieces.  I love the draping and contrast of the structured pieces with sheer chiffon. All garments are made in Montreal (yes, even the beaded pieces). The construction is impeccable. They manage to keep their prices very reasonable even though there are …

Dsquared2 Fall Winter 2010 - 2011 Shoes

Dsquared2 Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Shoes

I think Rocky Horror and Dr. Frankenfurter when I see the Open Toe Frank N Furter Pumps by Dsquared2 for Fall Winter 2010 – 2011. I’m sure that why they chose the name. It’s a no brainer. They were the talk of the internet after the World Cup opening ceremonies thanks to Alicia Keys. I emailed Todd at Dsquared2 for some high res photos and he sent me another four images. I’m totally blown away. Tommy Ton has photos on his blog and Bryanboy tweeted some pics of him in Florence wearing them. All the styles will be available online starting in August 2010 at Dsquared2.com.  Alicia Keys wore the Open Toe Frank N Furter Pumps that retail for $1,275.00 USD. That shoe will be available online starting in August 2010 at the following: Dsquared2.com, zappos.com and endless.com. images: courtesy of DSquared2

Chanel Fall 2010 Cube Bag

i want: Chanel Fall 2010 – 2011 Ice Cube Handbags

I rediscovered the Chanel Fall 2010 – 2011 ice-cube bags because of a series called Object Fetish on the site Showstudio.com. Examining key pieces from next seasons international collections, Object Fetish trains obsessive attention onto next seasons not-so-obscure objects of desire – namely the choicest accessories from fashions favourite names, metaphorically unpicked through film and text. The series is quite good and I love the in-depth discussion around the objects. View the Object Fetish: Chanel Handbag video. Edit: I found the video on YouTube This show was so overwhelming with the glacier and the faux fur all over the place. I didn’t notice any of the accessories. The video really worked up my handbag lust. I love the idea of these bags. They make me laugh because they are so ridiculous, but at the same time I’d love to own one. I enjoy that combination of absurdity and lust. I can’t wait to see these in the stores. I learned some interesting facts from the Showstudio video about Chanel. Chanel is one of the very …

Amanda Lew Kee Fall Winter 2010 - 2011

Amanda Lew Kee Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

“Who are those scenester kids?”, I wondered. I was at Derek Blasberg event. A group of four people all dressed in black arrived. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the scenester kids. Someone has to take this stuff seriously because I know it’s not me. I recognized the guy in the group. It was Trash Helder. The women were wearing clothing with a similar style. This wasn’t random chance, it smelled calculated to me. Carefully planned to produce the following reaction: who are you and who are you wearing? The photographers ate it up and the quartet received a lot of attention. They commanded the room, it was amazing to watch. I loved every second of it. I would later find out that later that Amanda Lew Kee, a recent graduate of Ryerson’s School of Fashion orchestrated the scenester kids scene was . I went to the Fall Winter 2010 preview of her namesake woman’s line. I got to meet Amanda and I gushed over her stunt and its brilliance.  It was perfect because …

i want: Lislie Yeung Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 Shoes

Lislie Yeung is a new London based shoe designer. Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 is her debut season and I’m liking the shoes and colour palette. Lislie attended Parsons in New York and Cordwainers College in London. (Other I want – I got favourites attended Cordwainers also: Nicholas Kirkwood and Gil Carvalho) There is no word on retailers as of yet. Hopefully her market season was good and we’ll see the Lislie Yeung Fall Winter 2010 – 2011 collection in the stores. There are a couple of interviews you can read about Lislie at Not Just a Label and Beautiful Fineries. via highsnobette.com images: lislieyeung.com

Jason Wu At The Room

Jason Wu at The Room

Jason Wu and I have similar shaped heads. I can’t get that thought out of my mind whenever I look at this picture. I met Jason when he came to The Room for a Trunk Show and cocktail party in his honour. Jason Wu’s bio reads like one of the those prodigy kids. At 16 he was well on his way to becoming a designer creating couture like clothing for dolls at Integrity Toys. At 17, he became the Creative Director of Integrity Toys. Jason studied fashion design at Parson and started his namesake label in 2006. He created Michelle Obama’s ivory inaugural gown which pushed him into the limelight and made him a household name. I never appreciated Jason’s collection until I saw it up close. His style is very ladylike; socialite wear if you’d like. The details and fabrics that make his clothing interesting aren’t noticeable in photos. I was really surprised at some of the luxurious fabrics he used in the collections. All clothing is manufactured in the United States. The Room …
