alice + olivia for MAC

M·A·C Cosmetics and alice + olivia have teamed up. I’m in love with the colours and have to get the nail polishes for sure. “If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise, what it is, it wouldn’t be. What it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”— alice + olivia = Stacey Bendet, New York native, downtown-fashionista, all-around fun girl, and the sum total of design line alice + olivia, M•A•C’s latest collaborator. A frump-fighting, pro-pixie, anti-seriousness collection of colour that includes new takes on Dazzleglass Crème. So Rich So Pretty Nail Lacquer and Partylicious Pigments…hip + happy = alice + olivia for M•A•C. The collection will be available starting July 8, 2010 until August 2010 at MAC stores.

(untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela – Video

Previously I posted about the newly release fragrance called (untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela. The scent is, as Martin wished, a ‘green flash’ – an olfactory equivalent and translation of the blank canvas and cleansing visual signature ‘white’ of Margiela. It is at once, clean, fresh and astringent, eschewing the floral hallmarks of contemporary perfumes and harking back to 1970’s trends, such as Chanel’s Nº19 There is now a short video created for the fragrance. (untitled) scents * Top Notes: Galbanum essence, Box green, Bitter orange blossom absolute * Middle Notes: Lentiscus resinoid, Jasmine, Galbanum resinoid * Base notes: Musk, Cedar, Incense resinoid The blog Coute Que Coute has an interesting post about his adventures at MMM HQ for the launch of (untitled).

Dermalogica

Group Therapy with Dermalogica

I’m a big Dermalogica fan. I got into to their skin care regimen a few years ago. Even though I receive products from other brands I always have some sort of Dermalogica product in my routine.  I attended a Dermalogica event called Group Therapy with .  It was a bloggers only event.  Dermalogica is smart and called us online editors instead of bloggers in their communication.  It was a personal face analysis session at the Dermalogica Training Centre in Toronto. I wanted to take advantage of the Dermalogica experts and check that I had the right product mix. It was a very informative session and it changed up my routine. Prior to attending the session my kit included: Special Cleansing Gel, Skin Prep Scrub, Multi-Active Toner, Total Eye Care and Active Moist moisturizer.  At the session, my expert recommended some different products in the line. I discovered the PreCleanse as the first step. It’s a lightweight cleansing oil that removes sebum and oil based debris from the skin before using the Special Cleansing Gel. It …

Chanel Rouge Coco Launch at Holt Renfrew

Chanel Rouge Coco Launch at Holt Renfrew

I saw something pretty cool at the Chanel Rouge Coco Launch at Holt Renfrew. CHANEL introduces a modern interpretation of classic creme lip colour as an homage to the rich life and legacy of ‘Coco’ Chanel. New lightweight lip colour glides on for easy application, and features a Hydratendre complex to help soften, soothe and condition lips – even boosting their ability to hold in moisture – for a plumper, smoother and healthier-looking appearance. A range of wearable shades with full-coverage finishes, from matte to pearl to soft shimmer So Chanel was launching this new lipstick line called Chanel Rouge Coco. Part of the festivities was an artist who was painting with Rouge Coco lipstick. It was amazing. I didn’t try out Rouge Coco. I’m a little intrigued though, perhaps I can find a red lipstick that works for me.

Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics Nail Polish

geekiviews: Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics Nail Polish

I was sent a package containing some Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics Nail Polish. The package contain a base coat, top coat and four colours. The names are stewed in a lot of pop culture and rub some people the wrong way. Brazen Hussy = metallic dark fuschia; Camel Toe = medium dark neutral beige, Virginal Pink = light pink and Cougar = medium red with blue-orange. I’m ambivalent about the names to be honest. I like regular colour names, it’s easy. I guess I’m a traditionalist in that sense. Brazen Hussy was my favourite of the bunch. It’s the type of colour I would wear normally. I like dark colours in nail polish like purples and blues with metallic finishes. I’m also a fan of neon and grey based shades. I decided to try something different and went with Virginal Pink, a colour I would never wear. I applied the nail polish as laid out in the instructions with slight modification. Two base and top coats were needed. I went with three coats of Virginal Pink …

INOA by L’Oreal Professional Preview

I received a black bubble envelope in the mail. I open it up and it’s an invite to the launch of Inoa, L’Oreal Professionel’s new ammonia free hair colour. Normally, I pass on hair relaxed things but I’ve enjoyed other L’Oreal presentations I’ve been privy to, so why not. The package had CD. I figured it was your typical press kit and photo combo. It wasn’t. It was a single video in English and French versions. Video previews for an event are a first for me; I had to share.

(untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela

(untitled) is the first perfume by Maison Martin Margiela which was three years in the making. The scent itself doesn’t appeal to me but I’m very interested in its presentation. The scent is, as Martin wished, a ‘green flash’ – an olfactory equivalent and translation of the blank canvas and cleansing visual signature ‘white’ of Margiela. It is at once, clean, fresh and astringent, eschewing the floral hallmarks of contemporary perfumes and harking back to 1970’s trends, such as Chanel’s Nº19. The final chosen scent for (untitled) was selected by Martin himself, and went directly into production by L’Oreal (without market testing) after only three samples were created at Givaudan by Perfumer Daniela Andrier, who muses: “I know that perfume must not follow a fashion or a trend, but an instinct. This first perfume expresses a femininity which does not fit into formal categories. I am grateful to Maison Martin Margiela for whispering the formula for this perfume into my ear.” I love the idea of a scent with cedar in it, but musky perfumes …

geekiviews: Lancome Absolue Precious Cells Advanced Regenerating and Replenishing Cream and Genifique Eye Youth Activating Eye Concentrate

I’ve been using the two Lancome skincare products I received from L’Oreal Canada religiously since I returned from India. The products have ridiculously long names, Absolue Precious Cells Advanced Regenerating and Replenishing Cream and Genifique Eye Youth Activating Eye Concentrate. I wonder about the names of products are created at beauty companies. not only do these products have ridiculously long names, they have big media kits also. The Absolue Precious Cells media kit was the largest I’ve seen for one product. Absolue Precious Cells is a skincare product geared for the woman in her 50s which uses a proprietary formula to “restore the stem cell environment and re-trigger the skin’s self-regenerative potential.” The media kit talks provides background information on epidermal stem cells. Lancome uses adult skin stem cells for anyone that is concerned. The results of Lancome’s quest to find the perfect combination of ingredients that create an atmosphere that allows epidermal skin stem cells to regenerate is detailed in the media kit. It’s fairly scientific for a media kit, I was a bit …
