It seems almost impossible to dislike anything Alber Elbaz touches. The Lanvin woman is a bit softer from spring 2011. The Klingon warrior women from fall 2010 is taking the season off. I’m not salivating over the shoes and jewellery like I normally do. I guess I’m not feeling the butterfly theme. I really like the bags though. They are those small to medium structured handbags that are all over the runways right now. I’m pretty much a sucker for full skirts that billow when you walk. I’m all over anything with movement. It’s dramatic and explains my love of this collection. There isn’t any full fashion show videos out yet, but here are a couple to give you a taste images: style.com

Prada Spring Summer 2011

I haven’t talked about the Spring Summer 20111 collections much yet. TIFF really threw me off and a lot of shows haven’t wowed me. Things started to pick up in Milan and I got a bit more interested. Expect some more posts about the collections I enjoyed for Spring Summer 2011. Miuccia Prada described the Prada Spring Summer 2011 collection as “minimal Baroque” and “exaggerated simplicity.” Tim Blanks saw references from hospital scrubs and Josephine Baker. I liked a lot of the bold colour, stripes and prints. The shoes were a little suspect, but another indicator of the 90s revival in fashion. The sunglasses are growing on me. My initial reaction was WTF but now I’m thinking I need a pair of sunglasses that make my neon yellow Prada Postcard look tame. I like the two looks: nerdy and girly. I’m loving the handbags.  The satchel shape is great for bright colour and bold stripes. The full video is out. It’s the same location as the men’s show. images: style.com

ECCO Styled – October 2010

During October ECCO will have a traveling installation called “ECCO styled” that will stop at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Sherway Gardens and the Toronto Eaton Centre. You can look at it like a little dress up installation. There will be a a wall of ECCO shoes and wardrobe options. Stylists will provide personal consultations utilizing the Fall 2010 ECCO line. You can get hair and make-up touch-ups so that you look great for the photographer that is there to capture the moment. I’ve been asked to participate in this installation and I’ll be at the Eaton Centre on October 15, 2010. You can join in on the fun on twitter by using the #ECCOStyled hashtag. Nella Bella Handbags Fall Winter 2010 – 2011

I visited Tarek at his studio to see the fall 2010 collection from Nella Bella. The dark palette has a few spots of colour with gold, plum, red and blue. Textures fabricated this season include suede and paper. Tarek took me through Spring 2011 (more on that in later posts) and the current Fall 2010 collections.  He also generously loaded me up with handbags and send me on my merry way. This meeting was during TIFF so I was getting a little to used to this scenario. I love the Seattle style (pictured at top) bag. The four zippers are used to collapse and enlarge the handbag. It’s nice to have the option of three sizes. His studio building is gorgeous and I had to do and outdoor shoot. Nella Bella is available in Toronto at: Body Blue Denim Lab 724 Queen St. W. LAX Diaries – Day 2

My first full day in California started with a trip to Rodeo Drive. It seems pretty fitting that my first sightseeing trip in LA would be its luxury centre. The actual road is pretty short but the surrounding blocks have other high-end and moderately priced clothing shops like Roots, Club Monaco and Gap. There were high-end stores I would have never expected to see like Harry Winston. We walked in and took at look at the celeb worn jewels but didn’t walk past the burly security guard who watched over the area where the sales staff where. I didn’t go into a lot of stores as I was a bit overwhelmed with the options. LA is a huge tourist town and I always find it funny to see people taking pictures at some cheesy Rodeo Drive landmark like a sign or water fountain. This happened everywhere, It’s that movie influence and one of the few things I find distasteful about LA. Most of the stores where fairly plain-looking. It seemed only the Prada store lived …

Star Wars x Adidas Fall Winter 2010 -2011

Star Wars x Adidas is coming back with a new lineup for Fall Winter 2010 – 2011. This series includes shoes from characters like Han Solo, C-3PO and R2-D2, Boba Fett, and Jabba the Hutt. I’m freaking over the Boba Fett shoes, he’s my favourite Star Wars character ever. The Jabba sneaks are really cool. They are a great colour, they are high tops and I love the textured leather.  I have to admit I like them more than the Boba Fett ones. Who doesn’t love some Han in carbonite? That was the theme of these The Empire Strikes Back inspired sneakers. Of course, these won’t come in my size. :(  The collection even features a Wookie jacket. I liked the Proenza Schouler Fall Winter 2010 collection. I didn’t care much for the shoes and I don’t care much for the ad campaign. The girls are too thin and it’s distracting. Tommy Ton returned to the Toronto fashion scene for an exhibition of his work. Holt Renfrew is displaying Tommy Ton’s photos on the mezzanine level at the Bloor Street store from August 18 – August 30, 2010. Holt Renfrew is delighted to welcome fashion photographer Tommy Ton to Holt Renfrew Bloor Street, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 for a private event to launch an exhibit of his work. The exhibit of 12 images of some of fall 2010’s most sought-after footwear styles will be housed at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street from August 18 to August 30 on the mezzanine level. These one-of-a-kind photos were taken by Tommy Ton this spring in Toronto and have each been signed by the photographer himself. For the duration of the exhibit, Holt Renfrew will host a contest where one can enter the chance to win one of 12 framed and autographed prints valued at $1,500.
